Curriculum Rationale

Our curriculum is underpinned by the belief that every child is entitled to a broad, balanced and ambitious education that enables them to achieve their full potential. It is designed in line with the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework to ensure pupils develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to succeed in learning and in life.

At Northgate Primary School, we focus upon every pupil developing:

-  A sense of belonging

- Confidence in communicating

- A resilient attitude

The curriculum is coherently planned and carefully sequenced so that knowledge builds progressively over time, enabling pupils to know more, remember more and do more.   Our curriculum has largely been developed from a bespoke perspective which therefore ensures that our adaptations are made in relation to our local context.   Some high-quality schemes of work including White Rose Maths and Teach Computing are used.

Strong cross-curricular links are made where relevant to support  understanding and help pupils to apply their learning in different contexts. Oracy and vocabulary development are prioritised across the curriculum to support access, engagement and academic success.

Through our teaching and wider curriculum, pupils develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, and are supported to understand and demonstrate British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
